THE SPECTACULAR Perseid meteor shower, which reaches its peak tonight (Aug 12), should be visible across Dorset’s night sky.
Despite the Met Office forecast of cloud, astronomers and star gazers will be scanning the skies for a glimpse of the shooting stars.
At its peak, more then 60 meteors could be visible every hour.
Alan Jefferis, of Durlston Observatory, Swanage, says the best way to watch is with the naked eye.
He said: “If it is clear, just lie back, look towards the night sky and enjoy.”
The Durlston Observatory is holding a public event tonight, coinciding with the shower.
