A PENSIONER who went into anaphylactic shock after being stung by a wasp at an agricultural show had his life saved by a cardiologist at the scene.

The man in his eighties and in a wheelchair is said to have been stung on the lip by a wasp at the annual Ellingham Show on Saturday and collapsed shortly afterwards.

Show spokesperson Michael Lingam-Willgoss said if had not been for the prompt actions of Dr Adrian Rozkovec the man may have died.

The incident happened at about 11.45am as both were in the members’ enclosure at the popular show held every year at Somerley Park near Ringwood.

Dr Rozkovec is said to have given the pensioner CPR and kept him alive until the Hampshire and Isle of Wight air ambulance arrived to convey the man to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

The man is thought to be recovering in the cardiology unit at the hospital, added Mr Lingam-Willgoss.

The show was delayed for about 45 minutes to allow the helicopter to land in the main arena and take off again.

Mr Lingam-Willgoss said: “A gentleman in a wheelchair was in the members’ enclosure and we think a wasp may have stung him on his lip. He went into anaphylactic shock.

“He collapsed out of his wheelchair and fortunately we did have an on-site medical officer and a cardiologist from Royal Bournemouth Hospital was there.”
