Asda slashes petrol prices to below £1 per litre

A PETROL price war could be on the horizon after Asda slashed forecourt prices to 99.9 pence per litre.

Both unleaded and diesel were taken down across Asda petrol stations, including at Canford Heath, bringing them well below the UK average of 103.8p for unleaded and 105.1p for diesel.

David Miles, Asda commercial director said: “There is no justification for any major retailer selling fuel above £1 per litre.”

Other retailers are now expected to follow suit.

Well done ASDA.

Such a great shame it takes a supermarket to take a smaller profit when approx £0.76 in the £1.00 of the cost goes to the goverment in taxes. Obviously to cover the latest round of Gilt edged final salary pensions they have to keep funding.

That's all good but unfortunately the only Asda petrol station are here is in Canford Heath.

Let's hope the rest of the rip off merchants take note and reduce their prices also!

Conned is an under statement Cooperman. With the government taking around 75%, yet the retailer is the one reducing the prices. It is high time these G8 or G20 leaders stood up and agreed on prices across the board. Then on the other hand would that ensure Gordon Brown would cut prices.

Well done ASDA, come on Sainsburys and Tescos
