New store at Woolies was ‘worth’ the wait

CROWDS gathered to be the first shoppers to have a taste of a new Poole shop that has breathed new life into a store left empty when Woolworths went bust.

The store in Ashley Road, Parkstone, reopened on Saturday as an 89p More For Less shop, run by local family the Annauths.

Poole Town Crier David Squire was on hand to declare the 4,000 square foot shop open.

Anoushka Annauth will run the business with her brother Kreeshan and sister Neeshe Dinya and the Parkstone family is promising quality branded goods, including a return for the famous Pick ’n’ Mix.

Anoushka said: “The response was excellent. There were queues outside, so as soon as the ribbon was cut there were lots of people coming in.

“We’re very pleased. We’ve done a lot of hard work and it’s coming through now, so everybody is very happy.

“We’ve had a lot of very good feedback. One lady said it was something they really needed on this road.”

A handful of former Woolies staff have returned and around 20 new jobs have been created.

Now it is trading, the shop hopes to repeat the spectacular success of Wellworths in Dorchester, which was opened by the former Woolworths store manager there and encouraged the Annauths to do something similar.

If it goes well in Parkstone, the family, who have lived in the area for more than 20 years, hope to expand around Poole and Bournemouth.

The Parkstone store follows a series of others to be filled after standing empty since Woolworths went out of business.

In Swanage, town business Nixon’s Home Hardware have moved into the vacant store, while in Wimborne fashion chain Fat Face took over the town’s branch. In Lymington, budget chain 99p Stores is set to move in to the former ‘Woolies’.

Sounds like a play on words to make people think it is a cheap shop.

Lets wait for a 1p or more shop to open soon.

It actually says "89p More for less" You not got enough to moan about in Ireland without trying to knock people who are putting their money were their mouth is? Best of luck to them.

Don't go then, or if you do, buy some reading glasses and perhaps you'll see the correct name of the shop.

Are you an ex-Bournemouth or Poole resident or just holidaying in Ireland?
Either way, you appear to have nothing positive to say about anything happening in our area, so why do you bother reading?

When we heard that someone had taken the lease of the old Woolworths store we thought great and wondered what it would be, but when we went to the shop on Saturday we were extremely disappointed. Would we go again, NO. The stock was a waste of time and people were literally walking in and walking out. We had hoped it would be a shop that was needed on Ashley Road but an 89p shop certainly isn't needed. If it is going to succeed it needs to stock properly not just biscuits, crisps, unwanted toiletries that people have never heard of. Look at some of the 99p shops around they are better. We would have been better off having a Wilkinsons or something along those lines. The need to sort the stock out to have some success. I won't be going in again for a long time.

It is great to see so many positive responses!

Our store's motto is More for Less - we offer great products - even branded products at a price of 89P or less.

Please do come and give your suggestions within the store - as this is your store and anything you want we will try our best to provide for you at the 89P mark.

Shop should do well with the FREE advertising they are getting here,i thought that this site was for comments,not trade adverts.
