Well that can't be down to speed. You are lucky to get above 20 mph on that road! Which means it must have been drivers not concentrating which at the end of the day is the cause of more accidents than speed.

WHY DO PEOPLE FAIL TO UNDERSTAND THAT IT IS THE SPEED WHICH CAUSES DAMAGE. SPEED ABOVE 30 IS MORELIKELY TO KILL, IT WONT PREVENT ACCIDENTS, JUST SAVE LIVES

Get off your soap box will you. We do not know why / how this accident happened. How about if they had a heart attack? 2 drivers hitting each other at 30 mph could kill, depending on impact points. Oh - and quit using caps lock will you.

A lack of concentration, that's all. Communication with others is also a key factor and as long as you do what you have to do when out and about we should all be able to get around much easier and safer.

Have you walked into someone this week, no? there must be a reason for that?

Yes and the faster you were walking the greater the damage, unless your Pegy, perhaps she has some fat to protect here

It ceases to amaze me how comments regarding a story about an accident results into an argument about the comments, and because someone is using capitals. No wonder the Daily Echo team are shutting down various parts of the forum.

Perhaps we can wait for a news update which might tell us why the accident took place.

I totally agree. I signed up for the forum recently so I could respond with my opinion on a recent article. My intention then was to make further comments on other future general articles to express my opinion, with hopefully constructive comments.
However some of the comments, (particularly, but not specifically) on this article, and others lead me to the conclusion of what is the point?
I wasn’t aware the Echo Team was considering shutting down various parts of the forum, which would be regrettable, but understandable. Ideally the moderation of the forum should be increased, so comments with personal criticism, making judgments with insufficient facts, and other negative content can be deleted before being shown. This is a very useful format in which local residents can make constructive comments, but the majority may well be deterred, as I have.

There are better comment systems out there. If we got together and posted echo stories to Digg (www.digg.com) we would then be able to use an advanced commenting system with self-moderation via comment scoring by the community. Then stupid comments get buried and the best comments are more prominent.

I'm sure the echo would not be pleased to loose the web traffic. Maybe they should update their comment system before we revolt! :-)

On a related note... the adverts that the echo use are often so dynamic they cause my laptop fan to go into overdrive. This also reduces the battery life quite dramatically. Thanks for that echo!

PokesdownMark,
Depending which browser you use there are what are called plug-ins which you can set to block these dynamic ads.

Using caps is regarded as shouting on the internet. Polite people usually use lower case except for the first letter of a sentence.
