BURGLARS took advantage of the heatwave to target 16 homes in just three days in Bournemouth and Poole.
Police said at least seven of the raids happened because doors and windows were left open.
Now they have warned householders to be on their guard and to make sure their homes are secure, whatever the weather.
The burglaries took place between midday on Friday, June 26, and the same time on Monday, June 29.
“By making it difficult for burglars to enter their homes, residents can help to prevent themselves from becoming a victim of this type of crime,” said Det Insp Mark Samuel, of Dorset Police.
He continued: “Residents should securely lock all doors and windows before going out. The same applies when they’re inside their homes or outside in their gardens.”
Det Insp Samuel said that 35 per cent of all burglaries were carried out by opportunists who let themselves in through an open door or window.
