INJURED Mark Baseby is backing his Buccaneers team-mates to cover his absence and send Dorset rivals Weymouth spinning out of the National League Knockout Cup.
The 21-year-old heat leader misses Bournemouth Castle Cover’s mouth-watering quarter-final, second leg, clash against Wildcats at Poole tonight due to a knee injury (7.30pm).
But he believes the Wimborne Road outfit, who will use rider replacement, can still dig |deep and overcome a 16-point deficit following their shock 56-40 mauling in the first leg last month.
Kent-born Baseby, also extremely doubtful for Buccaneers’ league trip to Mildenhall on Sunday, said: “I’m really gutted I can’t ride, but an overall victory for us is still do-able.
“It’s by no means out of reach. We have been beating teams quite comfortably at home.”
Buccaneers: 1 Danny Warwick, 2 Andrew Aldridge, 3 Jay Herne, 4 Rider replacement for Mark Baseby, 5 Kyle Newman, 6 Aaron Baseby, 7 Jerran Hart.
Weymouth: 1 Lee Smart, 2 Matt Wright, 3 Tim Webster, 4 James Cockle, 5 Mark Burrows, 6 Terry Day, 7 James White Williams.
- Buccaneers or Weymouth have been drawn against Plymouth in the semi-finals of the National League Knockout Cup.
