AN historic cinema in Wareham has been relaunched after being bought by the Purbeck Film Charitable Trust.
There were some fears for the future of the Rex when its dedicated team of volunteer directors decided to call it a day.
But the trust, which runs the Purbeck Film Festival, stepped in and pledged to continue running the venue in the spirit it has been for years.
Among the guests at the gala launch night was Lady Cotton, widow of Sir Bill, who was president of the Purbeck Film Charitable Trust until his death. She agreed to succeed her late husband as president.

David Evans, from the trust, said: “We are delighted to welcome Lady Cotton into the trust as our president, it is a great honour for us that she has accepted, and we very much look forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
Lady Cotton and Wareham’s mayor, Audrey Tighe, unveiled a plaque in the Rex foyer to mark the support of sponsors and the work of former directors Dougal Dixon and Jocelyn Barnard.
Also present were representatives of the sponsors and Annette Brooke MP.
