A NEW door-to-door bus service has been launched in Swanage, with the help of a household name.
Town resident Thelma Barlow – Coronation Street’s Mavis and star of sitcom Dinnerladies – was on hand for the first journey of the Swanage Hopper.
The service, organised by the Dorset Partnership for Older People’s Projects (Popps) and supported by Swanage Area Seniors’ Forum and the county council, is aimed at people who cannot use or access public transport.
It picks people up from their homes and takes them to Swanage Market and the Co-op every Tuesday.
Popps community leader for Swanage, Mo Andrews, said: “It’s use it or lose it. This is a pilot scheme for six months, so we need people to make use of it.”
