Gas work to spark Civic Centre chaos in Poole

BRACE yourself – commuters look set for rush hour frustration in the heart of Poole in the coming weeks.

As motorists on Bournemouth’s Spur Road suffer delays because of roadworks, Poole drivers look set to get a dose of their own at the Civic Centre gyratory.

Gaswork maintenance on the busy one-way system will shut one lane of the town centre’s main hub for traffic shuttling to and from Bournemouth.

Already something of a bottleneck during the morning and evening rush hours, the work is likely to cause even longer hold-ups during its six-week length.

Two lanes will remain available adjacent to the works for this period

John Sayers, the council’s principal engineer for highways maintenance

Poole council admitted rush hour delays were likely.

John Sayers, the council’s principal engineer for highways maintenance, said: “Although there may be some delays at peak times, we do not expect there to be significant disruption to traffic.

“Two lanes will remain available adjacent to the works for this period.”

The closure will affect the inside lane of the gyratory, from the Fernside Road traffic lights to the lights at the Commercial Road turn-off.

Southern Gas Networks will carry out the work, which involves laying a new main.

It is scheduled to start after the morning rush hour on Monday, January 19.

Poole! what about Boscombe as a pedestrian I could not get to the Nat West Bank due to gas works without a 100 yard detour , Well it keeps me fit. Next the motorist will be complaining about the chaos being caused there.

Can you not show the section of road on a map to highlight what traffic route will be effected?

One good thing might come out of this - the Civic Centre could be left on an island and isolated from the real world !!!
Or is that the case already ??
