LAPLAND: Want your money back?

8:46am Tuesday 2nd December 2008

A SPOKESMAN for Consumer Direct, the government help line for consumer advice, told the Daily Echo: “People who are unhappy with the service they have received may be able to claim against the company under the Supply of Goods and Services Act.

“Our advice, in the first instance, is to recommend that people write to the trader concerned and ask for damages which they consider to be reasonable.

“Ultimately they may have recourse to the county court. If they have paid by credit card they are protected under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act if the price of an individual item is more than £100 and less than £30,000.

“If people get in touch with us we can ensure that their complaints are passed on to the relevant trading standards service and give advice on consumers’ rights under civil law. We are the first port of call for consumers with enquiries relating to trading standards.”

Consumer Direct can be contacted on 08454 040506.
