'Sachs scandal' Brand back in Bournemouth

FRESH from the drama that cost him his job, one of Britain’s most controversial comedians is heading for Bournemouth.

Russell Brand added more dates to his A Brand New Year tour, after “overwhelming public demand” saw the first run of dates sell out.

Tickets for the February 28 BIC gig went on sale on Friday, November 28.

Brand resigned from Radio 2 after 37,000 complaints over messages he and guest Jonathan Ross left on actor Andrew Sachs’ voicemail.

Ross is due back on air in January following a 12-week unpaid suspension.

The issue also led to the resignations of two senior BBC executives.

A spokesman for Brand said: “Its unlikely Russell will speak about the Sachs incident, and it’s worth pointing out there haven’t been any problems with ticket sales, hence the additional five dates.”

Abi Singleton, marketing and promotions team leader for the BIC, said: “We’re expecting the same as we have always had, sell-out nights. It’s a new show. We’re very pleased to have him back.

Brand was recently in the film Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and starred alongside Adam Sandler in Bedtime Stories which is out next month, and has sold out dates at New York’s Gramercy Theatre and Los Angeles’ Roxy Theatre.

The Bournemouth date is the final show in the 25-gig run starting in Reading on January 18. Tickets can be purchased in person at the BIC, on 0844 576 3000 and online at bic.co.uk.

The show is advertised as suitable for over 18s only.

I trust he's paying for the publicity?

What a complete non-starter of a story. He began this tour before this stupid storm in a teacup, so it's **** journalism to link it to his radio 1 show now. It's only the multi meadia world that we live in that managed to create the whole fiasco in the first place.

What a ludicrous comment. People can make up their own minds about what they choose to censor.

Omegaman, you are a cretin of the highest order. If you don't like Brand then don't watch his shows. Calling for the censorship or boycott of something because you don't approve is an incredibly ignorant stance to take. What a horribly dull and narrow minded person you must be.

I am outraged ! Do we really live in a world where someone can slight Faulty Towers legend Andrew Sachs and then think they can just stroll into the town i love as if it was nothing.
Having said that though, i would urge people to show restraint at what is sure to be a very difficult time for fans that have a particular hankering for a good old 70's comedy.

All I can say is if you don't like him then don't watch or listen to him! To all those that do, good luck getting your tickets and see you there!

You can't censor people, but you can make them accountable for their actions when they over-step the mark -which happened with Brand and Ross.
I don't like Brand's type of comedy personally - I find it all a bit childish. However, each to their own.

I'LL BE ON HOLIDAY IN FEBRUARY SO I'VE HAD TO SEND THIS IN EARLY.
BRAND STROLLED ONTO THE BIC LAST NIGHT FULL OF ARROGANCE AND NOT FUNNY AT ALL. I WAS FUMING. HE MAY HAVE FORGOTTEN THE WHOLE MANUELGATE INCIDENT,AND SO IT SEEMED HAD THE REST OF THE AUDIENCE..BUT NOT ME.
I DIDN'T LAUGH ONCE. I DIDN'T EVEN SMILE.
I CAN CONFIRM,AS I SUSPECTED ALL ALONG,THE £120 I SPENT ON A TICKET ON E BAY WAS A COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY.
I WILL NEVER FORGIVE AND FORGET. NEVER!

Great to see Russell add a date at the BIC to his tour. I'll be travelling down to Bournemouth to see him again. I've seen Russell live many times and he never disappoints - the most innovative and brilliant stand up comic there is. Shocking people and making them laugh is what he does best and having witnessed a warm up for the tour, I know I'm in for another great night.
