Did you see lights in sky over Christchurch?

SEVERAL people reported seeing a UFO over the sea south of Mudeford on Saturday night.

A Mudeford man was visiting a friend in the St Catherine's Hill area of Christchurch and saw unexplained lights in the sky over Hengistbury Head.

“I went outside to get something from my car and I noticed something moving around outside in the south or south-east direction,” he said.

“It wasn’t an aircraft, because I checked with Bournemouth Airport, and it wasn’t a Chinese lantern or a shooting star.

“This was moving around like an insect. It was as bright as a car headlight and ever now and then it was being followed by a flashing orange light.”

Occasionally it would stop moving and then it was difficult to detect, he said.

He believes the object, which made no noise, was over the sea off Hengistbury Head.

He and his friend watched it for about 40 minutes from 9.30pm when it became too cold to stay outside.

He popped out into the garden to check the lights at regular intervals and last saw them at about 11.30pm.

And that is about the time lights were seen by George Hughes and his wife from Redcliffe Close, Burton.

In an email George said: "My wife and I both saw a UFO over Christchurch on Saturday. It came back again on Sunday.

"My wife started feeling uncomfortable after we observed it for about 15 minutes.

"It had what appeared to be three different coloured lights and tapering sides.

"Imagine holding your forefinger and thumb of each hand, apart, on the outside edges of a circle then drawing them away and closing them slowly. That's the only way I can describe it."

He tried to take photographs but the exposure time required was too long.

His wife, who did not want to be named, said both sightings were at about 11.30pm.

"I wasn't quite sure if it was a star or what, but when I looked through his camera with a powerful lens I could see it wasn't a star," she said.

"It had green and red colouring and it had reflections on it."

She admits she was sceptical at first.

"I said it was a helicopter or something, but when I opened the window I couldn't hear a sound.

"It just scared me to be honest. If it was anything, I didn't want to know."

Green and red and reflections...perhap
s a ships port and starboard lights and a radar relfector? Or the prot and starboard lights of a plane or airship? Do alien vessels adhere to our navigation light system?

The international space station is more visible at the moment as it has another craft docked with it. Alternatively, with the wind direction coming from the north, then you'd be less likely to hear a plane or helicopter out at sea.

Still, let's not get in the way of the Echo on a quiet local news day.

I did not see the lights over Christchurch, but I am looking forward to seeing the best Christmas lights Ferndown has ever seen (probably the very best lights in the area) being switched on this weekend (29/11/08) with loads of festive fun from 2pm.

The International Space Station has been seen for two or three nights over the past week. It could have been the lost tool bag also, (Joke).

Just had an amazing view of the International Space Station and the shuttle Endeavour passing right overhead shortly after the shuttle had undocked from the station. I wouldn't be surprised if the sight of two bright lights moving across the sky caused the odd UFO report or two tonight!

I saw the same lights last Saturday night and I didn't report it as I thought people would think I was nuts!! What I thought was a shooting star came from the direction of Ringwood and appeared overhead in Queens Park. It was red in colour and appeared to have wings and was soaring round and round beneath the clouds before moving away very quickly to the direction of Catherine's Hill. This happened at about 9.30pm on Saturday evening and is the second time in the past 6 months that I have seen similar sights.

I saw a strange metalic object appear in my back garden, it seemed to have to antennae and a strange green hue. upon closer inspection it turned out to be my lawnmower, barely visible because of the tall grass.
lucky escape for me......whew

We are sitting here after just witnessing similar events described after conducting a search on the internet. I live behind St. Catherines Hill and looking South East is the area in question. On 22nd November, from 9.30 - around 11 pm. Me and a friend have just witnessed similar events to the ones described above. Firstly my friend went outside to his car and called to me as he said he had seen something odd in the sky, 2 objects in fact. 1 was a bright white twinkling light that manoeuvred like an insect - not just going up as a lantern would . The object seemed to have strategic movements that seemed to move with a certain degree of intelligence. The other object was a flashing orange light. We also phoned up Hurn airport to question as to if they knew the identity of these objects, they replied saying that there were no aircraft due in this location at that time and so were unaware of what the objects were. Did anyone else see them?

Also the other things we noticed was sparks of light emanating to the ground (sounds crazy) like a photo flash in a line? but it is honestly what we saw and there were two of us, We have had a long discussion and have no conclusion as to what they were - . But it was fascinating - but a very cold night.

To begin with there were a multitude of these objects also... None of the things above add up to what we saw sorry - I guess you would had to see it for yourself to make any clear judgement. Roderick

Some ley hunters and ufologists consider St. Catherine to be symbolically associated with the fiery 'Catherine Wheel' or UFO in the sky. Whether or not there is anything in this notion, the SE area around Winchester, dominated by St. Catherine's Hill, became the stage for a number of dramatic UFO/humanoid contacts in 1976 and 1977. In 1958, over Winchester itself, two objects were seen 'buzzing' an aircraft by two witnesses - one of them an ex-RAF air-gunner using binoculars. In 1968 a formation of UFO's was seen over the city.

it's 1:21am on 21st january 2009, and my friend roddie, the guy who posted the post above and myself are watching the same light again in the same place in the sky. Roddie and i have been watching the light for just over an hour now. I was about to leave at 12.10am and i saw the light moving up and down eraticly in the sky very quickly changing directions. i alerted my friend roddie and we both came outside to watch it. after about twenty minutes or so a plane (a flashing light going in a continuous straight line) was travelling towards it and the ufo shot out something we can only describe as being a shooting star away from the plane at a south west 45 degree angle downwards from itself the plane was then nowhere to be seen. I have never seen anything like this before. We have got rather cold from standing outside for an hour and come inside. we are keeping on checking on it and i am considering going to go towards burton to see if i can still see it. I may even get my video camera, altho most video cameras cannot zoom in on small lights in the sky. most video cameras blur even if you zoom in on the moon. Either way, this whole thing absolutely fascinating, and intriguing that i was drawn to go over to roddies at half eleven at night. It also happens to be in the same place in the sky and 1 day shy of being exactly 2 months since we saw it last..
