SEVERAL people reported seeing a UFO over the sea south of Mudeford on Saturday night.
A Mudeford man was visiting a friend in the St Catherine's Hill area of Christchurch and saw unexplained lights in the sky over Hengistbury Head.
“I went outside to get something from my car and I noticed something moving around outside in the south or south-east direction,” he said.
“It wasn’t an aircraft, because I checked with Bournemouth Airport, and it wasn’t a Chinese lantern or a shooting star.
“This was moving around like an insect. It was as bright as a car headlight and ever now and then it was being followed by a flashing orange light.”
Occasionally it would stop moving and then it was difficult to detect, he said.
He believes the object, which made no noise, was over the sea off Hengistbury Head.
He and his friend watched it for about 40 minutes from 9.30pm when it became too cold to stay outside.
He popped out into the garden to check the lights at regular intervals and last saw them at about 11.30pm.
And that is about the time lights were seen by George Hughes and his wife from Redcliffe Close, Burton.
In an email George said: "My wife and I both saw a UFO over Christchurch on Saturday. It came back again on Sunday.
"My wife started feeling uncomfortable after we observed it for about 15 minutes.
"It had what appeared to be three different coloured lights and tapering sides.
"Imagine holding your forefinger and thumb of each hand, apart, on the outside edges of a circle then drawing them away and closing them slowly. That's the only way I can describe it."
He tried to take photographs but the exposure time required was too long.
His wife, who did not want to be named, said both sightings were at about 11.30pm.
"I wasn't quite sure if it was a star or what, but when I looked through his camera with a powerful lens I could see it wasn't a star," she said.
"It had green and red colouring and it had reflections on it."
She admits she was sceptical at first.
"I said it was a helicopter or something, but when I opened the window I couldn't hear a sound.
"It just scared me to be honest. If it was anything, I didn't want to know."

I wouldn't be surprised if the sight of two bright lights moving across the sky caused the odd UFO report or two tonight!
