CHILDREN at an Orpington primary school were given a lift when they were visited by a Commonwealth shot-put champion.
The pupils from Perry Hall primary school in Perry Hall Road were treated to a visit from four-time Olympian, Judy Oakes, who also won Commonwealth gold in the shot-put. She was there to award the school an Activemark award recognising its contribution to sport in the borough.
Perry Hall is the first school in the borough to be awarded an Activemark, which acknowledges the promotion of sport in the community.
At an assembly for staff and pupils, Mrs Oakes said: “Perry Hall has done amazingly well to have achieved such an award and now it is in a position where it is leading the way and has become an example to others”.
