SCHOOLchildren in Bournemouth trained to be peer mediators and now have special dens in which to operate.
At Bethany Junior and St Clement's and St John's Infant School, 30 children have completed the four day training to become mediators, helping their peers resolve conflicts. At each school there is a log cabin in the play ground called a den for them to chat in privacy.
The peer mediators work at lunch times and break times, identified by badges and coloured vests, helping to prevent bullying and promote compromise between other children.
Jayne Butler, pupil welfare manager for the schools, said: "We have been running the scheme just this term but already it has made a difference to pupils' behaviour. I have noticed that some children are going to the mediators rather than members of staff."
Mediators at Bethany Junior School had to apply for the role and were selected after interviews with a panel of teachers.
