FERNDOWN'S England schools champion Chris Campbell became a British champion when he represented the host nation in the WISE schools international against Wales, Ireland and Scotland.

In fact, the 16-year-old from New Milton returned from Crawley, Sussex, with three gold medals and a bronze - plus long course Dorset county records in both his individual events.

Then he promised: "I'm planning to go faster in Wales and at the Olympic trials shortly."

Campbell's most impressive swim was his gold-winning time of 58.07sec in the intermediate boys' 100m butterfly.

This not only slashed 0.69sec off the Dorset senior record he set in Manchester last year but made him the only one of eight boys in the race to go under 60 seconds.

He followed up with a bronze-winning 2:11.66 in the 200m butterfly, a 0.08sec improvement on his county record.

He was also in the England teams which won the 4x100m freestyle and medley relays and his points helped England to an overwhelming victory over the other nations.
