"OUTSTANDING" is the word used by government inspectors when referring to Rushcombe First School in Corfe Mullen.

In the latest Ofsted report for the Hanham Road school, inspectors draw attention to the pupils' good behaviour and hard work.

Teaching is described as high quality, helping the 309 children in the school's care onto a successful road of study and life.

"This is an outstanding school," says the report. "The school very successfully balances pupils' personal as well as academic development.

"Pupils of all ages make outstanding progress, building on the excellent start children get as a result of the high quality teaching and support."

It adds that parents are positive about the impact of opportunities and quotes one as saying: "My child is enthused about learning."

It adds: "The school's philosophy, based on the five Rs of resilience, resourcefulness, reflectiveness, reciprocity and responsibility, was extended at the suggestion of pupils to include respect.

"It transcends all that happens at the school, underpins excellent personal development and ensures all pupils are well prepared for future study and life in general."

Ofsted says there are no major problems at the school needing improvement.

Acting head Leonie Fawcett said: "We are delighted with the report as we feel it reflects the school's ethos and our dedication to quality learning.

"We are extremely proud of our impressive team of pupils, staff and governors who work so very hard to make our school unique. Our outstanding school is enhanced by the constant support and contribution of our parents and local community."

She added: "We are never complacent at Rushcombe and continue to aspire to succeed in everything we do, creating an excellent education for all our children."
