OLD WHITGIFTIANS 45 OLD ABINGDONIANS 0
Old Whitgiftians welcomed Abingdonians for their first visit to Croham Road on Saturday but punished them in a match of open and entertaining rugby.
Whilst the OW's started the match one player short, Abingdonians had brought a good number of substitutes, so 20 minutes into the game, with the scores still level at 0-0, the visitors loaned the OW's one of their subs.
Although Whitgiftians played to the top of their form both in attack and defence, the final score did not do justice to Abingdonians.
They had plenty of opportunities to score but kept making crucial errors, evidenced by Ollie Edwards' intercept try from his own 22.
OW's first try came from a break by fullback Giles Dempsey. Captain Mark Pollard and prop Jon Bunn also posted first-half tries.
On resumption, Whitgiftian elected to run a penalty which allowed Edwards to score his second of the day before debutant Marcus Hodges and Stuart Yeomans both scored tries to complete the rout.
