DISTRICT chiefs will meet to decide whether or not to fund a homelessness reduction caseworker for Purbeck today. (Aug 21)

A report from PDC housing manager Fiona Brown, asking members to consider appointing the worker on a two -year fixed contract, will be considered by Purbeck District Council.

PDC members are being asked to approve funding for the caseworker, who will work 18.5 hours a week for Purbeck Citizens Advice, being paid £16,766 a year.

In the report Ms Brown explained: "As previously reported to the council, the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 places new duties on local authorities to prevent and relieve homelessness in their areas.

"It also requires housing authorities to provide homelessness services to all those affected irrespective of whether they are in priority need or 'intentionally homeless'.

"There is likely, therefore, to be a significant increase in the number of households seeking help."

PDC is set to meet at Westport House, Worgret Road, Wareham, at 7pm this evening.
