IT'S Buckham Fair today, the country show in west Dorset hosted by actor Martin Clunes and his wife Philippa. It's the 10th anniversary this year - and the last one for a while as organisers prepare to take a break. The hope after this event is to hand over a cheque for more than £100,000 towards building a brand new cancer centre in Dorchester. The fair, which combines a dog and pony show with a food and craft fair showcasing regional producers, is held on the Clunes' land off the A356 near Beaminster. To mark the 10th anniversary, a host of new events are being introduced, including a World Guinness Record attempt to have the largest number of dogs sitting simultaneously on a command. The Devil’s Horsemen Display Team will be performing and after a two year absence the Stunt Dogs of Film and TV will be returning with a brand new display – not to mention the Quack Pack duck herding display. Visitors will also have the chance to enjoy a variety of artisan, craft and other trade stands from local suppliers as well as a food court and beer tent. There’s a classic car display, a funfair and the opportunity to take part in all kinds of horse, pony and dog classes on the day. This year amongst other rides there will be a big wheel, dodgems, a carousel and a helter skelter. Martin Clunes will also be reunited again with his Men Behaving Badly co-star Neil Morrissey, who has been invited to judge 'The Dog even more like Neil Morrissey competition'. If you want to meet Martin Clunes, organisers say he's very hands-on when it comes to ensuring the smooth-running and success of the event so he will be very busy. He takes part in judging and some of the displays so there's plenty of chances to see him. While no particular 'meet and greets' can be arranged, Mr Clunes is always around – and when he’s not busy, you are more than welcome to say hello. Organisers say new measures are being taken this year to improve traffic movement to and from the fair following the 'challenges' last year. There is a one way traffic direction system in operation, with a one way system from the A356. The postcode of Buckham Fair for the SatNav is: DT8 3SH - follow the signs once near to the site. No traffic will be allowed to enter the site from the direction of Mosterton or Beaminster tunnel (A3066). There will be no access to the fair through Beaminster apart from Whitcombe Road (B3163). It is for this reason that the police incident in Beaminster, where the road through the Square remains closed after a ram-raid, should not affect traffic heading to Buckham Fair. A statement from organisers says: "We are so sorry to hear about the unfortunate incident in Beaminster. We have been in touch with the authorities and are keeping an eye on the situation. We don’t believe that the current closure of the town centre will affect traffic to the event, as on a practical level, our one-way traffic diversion bypasses the town centre. For more information, please visit our website here http://www.buckhamfair.co.uk/directions/" Gates open at 9am. Adults pay £8 and children under 16 go free. Tickets only available from the gate on the day. Those bringing their dogs should keep them on a leash at all times, unless taking part in an event.
