WHEN George Egg gives a cookery demonstration, he prefers to use items from his hotel room rather than traditional kitchen appliances.

The unconventional cook who visits Bournemouth next month, will prepare a three course meal using a trouser press and steam iron. No hobs, no ovens. He also enjoys cracking jokes at the same time he’s cracking eggs.

His show is part of Mervyn Stutter’s Pick Of The Fringe which returns to Shelley Theatre in Boscombe on Friday, September 7 as the 2018 Edinburgh Festival Fringe comes to a close.

“I have been a stand up performer for around 20 years,” explains George. “A lot of travel goes hand in hand with staying in hotels throughout the world. By being mischievous, hungry and realising that expensive hotel food is predominantly bland, I started experimenting and cooking food with what was available in a hotel room. I started to share these on YouTube and my show built from there.”

His show is desrcibed as a m,ulit-sensory experience.

“It is one third stand-up, one third TED talk type performance and one third live cookery demonstration. The most important aspect is that this is a multi sensory experience. The dishes cooked are genuine and the audience get to smell as well as taste (yes, forks are handed out). This is live theatre to engage every sense. You just can’t recreate this if you are watching at home.”

George has performed at Mervyn Stutter’s Pick Of The Fringe in 2015 and 2016 and is a winner of the Spirit of The Fringe.

“I have known Mervyn since the early 1990s and it is a privilege to be an award winner. The acts that are performed are not via a PR-led awareness drive, but from Mervyn and his team venturing out and finding what is interesting to share with a wider audience.”
