A POOLE council worker who got behind the wheel while almost three times the drink-drive limit has been ordered to go to rehab.

Sarah Evans-Johnson, a youth development worker, had 103 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when she was stopped in Upton last month. The limit is 35mg.

Police had followed the 51-year-old's vehicle from Wallisdown Road before pulling her over at around 11.30pm.

Evans-Johnson, of Tree Hamlets in Poole, appeared at Poole Magistrates’ Court this month to admit drink driving.

She has now been sentenced to a community order and must comply with an alcohol treatment requirement for six months, as well as 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

The defendant was fined £130 and ordered to pay an £85 victim surcharge and £85 costs. She was also disqualified from driving for two years.

Magistrates heard Evans-Johnson has a "stressful job".

Nicola Jinks, mitigating, said the defendant had gone to see friends after work.

“They had come back from holiday and bought alcohol from duty free," Ms Jinks said.

“They all sat around having a few drinks. She then got in the car and drove home.”

The defendant “does have alcohol issues”, the solicitor said.

“She has been using alcohol as an anaesthetic,” Ms Jinks said.
