STAFF at Stewarts Garden Centre in Christchurch will be shaving their heads for charity next month.

Last month, Paul Hilliam, manager at Stewarts Christchurch Garden Centre, confirmed that he had the all clear from head and neck cancer following two major surgeries and radio and chemotherapy.

Since the diagnosis of the cancer in 2013, Paul has received great care and support from Macmillan Cancer Support and after announcing his good news to his team, asked for volunteers to have their hair removed for sponsorship as part of the Macmillan Brave the Shave fundraising initiative.

“I have been delighted that so far 21 of our team, including two of the female members, have signed up to have their heads shaved at the centre on the 25th September.

"Our target is to raise over a £2000 for the charity through sponsorship. Pledges are coming in thick and fast.”

Despite the enthusiasm to use gardening shears, clippers and other appropriate instruments to create the bald heads, the rules and common sense required by health and safety will be applied on the day with the help of Blades of Highcliffe.

The shave will be a public event at the Christchurch centre.

Managing director Martin Stewart, said: "I have offered Paul my congratulations on his great news and I am both proud and inspired by the goodwill that the team is showing in their support for this initiative to fund this vital charity."
