COASTGUARD officials were called to Studland Bay on Tuesday night over concerns for a group of nine paddleboarders.
Crew aboard a passing vessel raised the alarm. Coastguard rescue officers were sent to South Beach, Middle Beach and Knoll Beach to search for the paddleboarders, while another team went to higher ground at Old Harry Rocks for a better view.
The paddleboarders were soon spotted and tracked towards Knoll Beach.
Officials confirmed that members of the group were safe and well.
A spokesperson from the coastguard said the call was a "false alarm with good intent".
"If you ever see anybody in difficulty or who appears to be in difficulty on or near the coast then please call 999 coastguard," the spokesperson said.
"We'd rather be called to a false alarm than miss someone in danger."
