WORK to repair a series of walls around the Priory in Christchurch are set to be approved.

The application from Christchurch Borough Council is set to be given the green light by the authority's planning committee on Thursday (16.8).

All the walls, which are brick and stone, sit within the scheduled monument area of the Priory precinct.

A report to the committee says: "The walls concerned are currently in a poor state of repair which is due to invasive plant and tree growth, and rusting of ironwork fixing in the form of hinges set within the walls, which over time have weakened mortar joints and causing de-stabilisation."

In recommending approval of the work the report says the project will cause "no harm to the significance of the scheduled ancient monument".
