A DEFIBRILLATOR was stolen from a sports centre in Poole.

The device which can help save lives was attached to the wall of the sports pavilion used by Dexter Sports YFC in Learoyd Road, Canford Heath.

The piece of equipment, which is leased to the sports club, was reported missing at 2.20pm on Friday.

It is believed it was taken sometime between 7pm on Thursday and the time it was reported missing on Friday.

Dorset Police said yesterday that the defibrillator had been recovered but was damaged beyond repair.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing two youths kicking the defibrillator before running away from the scene.

Posting on their Facebook page, Dexter Sports YFC said: “We sadly have to report that the behaviour of the young thugs hanging around Canford Heath has sunk to a new low.

“Last night they smashed up the community accessible defibrillator that the club worked so hard to purchase and make available to the public in the event of an emergency.”

Dorset Police is investigating, and the Neighbourhood Policing Team will be making follow-up enquiries

A public meeting will take place on Tuesday, August 21, between 2pm and 3pm at Canford Heath Community Centre to discuss antisocial behaviour in the area.
