A NURSE from Wareham has won a Cavell Star Award for dedication to her profession.

Anita Brennan, a homecare nurse working for Lloyds Pharmacy Clinical Homecare, was nominated by a colleague for going above and beyond for her co-workers.

Nursing charity Cavell Nurses’ Trust launched the Cavell Star Awards in April, in partnership with Lloyds Pharmacy Clinical Homecare.

Nominations are being sought from nursing teams throughout the UK for that special team mate who has shown exceptional care for either their colleagues or their patients and patients’ families.

Each Cavell Star Award winner receives a remarkable medal, presentation case and pin badge as well as an invite to attend the special care and cake garden party, a celebration of the nation’s nursing professionals.

Anita said: “I was delighted and very surprised. It is lovely that someone had gone to the trouble of nominating me, it has given me a real boost.

“My nursing team are the glue that holds everything together for our patients.

“They are always there for me to call on for specialist help or a chat.

“I always think that a happy and empowered team is a productive team, helping one another through difficulties, to meet our patients’ needs.”

Her colleague and clinical trainer Teena Rice explained: “Anita is a hard working manager and so supportive of my role training nurses and ensuring those nurses are always kept up to date and current in their practice. She’s had to deal with some difficult situations and has always remained professional and fair.

“Anita deserves her Cavell Star Award to show our appreciation of her hard work and dedication to her team and patients.”
