A MUSICAL event for all the family will take place in Meyrick Park tomorrow to mark the start of the three-day extravaganza Proms in the Park.

The BSO’s ‘Relaxed Thursday’ will kick off with a performance by the Mini BSO, a quintet of BSO musicians exhibiting all four families of the orchestra.

The Pirates Ahoy concert invites families to climb aboard for a seafaring adventure with an hour of songs, stories, dance and more.

This will be followed by the BSO’s new disabled-led ensemble, BSO Resound.

Conducted by James Rose, BSO Resound will perform a selection of classical works, including Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro Overture, Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata and Gershwin’s I’ve Got Rhythm.

BSO Resound will then join forces with the BSO and conductor Victor Aviat for a concert of symphonic greats, including Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty Waltz and Shostakovich’s Festive Overture.

The orchestra and BSO Resound will also perform a new piece composed by Alexander Campkin, BSO Resound composer-in-residence.

There will also be videos on the big screens to keep families entertained between performances.

Doors open for picnics from 4pm and performances take place between 4.30pm and 7pm.

Entry costs £5 for adults, £1 for under 18s and free for under threes. To book visit BSOlive.com or call the BSO Box Office on 01202 669925
