A DRINK driver who hit a stationary car failed to brake in the seconds before the collision, a court has heard.
Nicholas Bate was behind the wheel of his grey Audi TT when he hit a Hyundai in Exeter Road, Bournemouth on July 18.
CCTV showed the Hyundai’s brake lights were illuminated for around six seconds before it came to a halt. The Audi’s brake lights didn’t illuminate at all.
Police were called and Bate, of Knyveton Road in Bournemouth, failed a roadside breath test. Later tests showed he had 43 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.
The limit is 35mg.
The 55-year-old appeared at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Friday. He admitted drink driving and driving without due care and attention.
Bate was fined £1,097 and ordered to pay £85 costs and an £82 surcharge. He was also barred from the roads for 12 months.
