SIGNS of life are starting to appear on land ravaged by fire last week.

Around 100 firefighters fought to put out the heathland blaze when it took hold of Ferndown Common on Thursday, July 26. Fire crews remained at the scene and were able to tackle the fire when it flared up again two days later.

Steve Broad, station manager for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, shared a picture on social media yesterday of green shoots breaking through the scorched land. However, he said it would take “years” for the 13 hectares of heathland to recover.
