THE DUKE and Duchess of Cambridge are backing a glittering Bournemouth awards ceremony celebrating the arts and young people’s mental health.
Music in the Mind takes place at the BIC in October and will be supported by Loose Women and I’m A Celebrity star and mental health campaigner, Rebekah Vardy, and Bournemouth’s Paul Scates, a motivational speaker who campaigns on mental health and child abuse.
The evening will feature performances by Beverley Knight and Heather Small and a finale from DJ Ben Ofoedu, said Paul, who is also the event’s creative director.
It’s being held in partnership with a number of organisations, including Heads Together, the charity backed by Prince William, the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry, which encourages national conversation about mental health issues.
“In addition to the performances we’ll be hosting Dorset’s Inspirational Children and Young People’s awards which is the regional arm of Britain’s Inspirational Children and Young People’s Awards,” said Paul, who has brought the event to Bournemouth because of his connections to the town.
“The nominees will be submitted by the public with our panel of celebrity judges selecting the final 10 winners.”
Young people can be entered in a number of categories including wellbeing and resilience, growth and personal development, young fundraiser, speaking out and community champion.
“I want people to see this not just as mental health but talk about our mental wealth,” he said.
As part of the awards prize, each young winner will be given the opportunity to work alongside the celebrities and head judge, Frederick Whyte, the RHS Chelsea Gold garden designer, to produce an interactive garden inspired by their journeys.
“This unique opportunity will be a first of its kind at the world famous RHS Chelsea Flower Show,” said Paul.
Along with Rebekah Vardy the event is being supported by Vanessa Feltz, Denise Welch, Kacey Ainsworth, Jack Eyres (Mr Dorset/Mr UK), and Dorset Police Commissioner Martyn Underhill
