THE summer fun continues across Dorset this weekend with a feast of events set to take place.

1. Get the weekend off with a bang rather than a whimper when Bournemouth's summer fireworks return on Friday. The free dazzling display takes place every Friday at 10pm until August 24.

2. Thousands of people are expected to turn out for Mudeford Fun Day at Mudeford Quay on Sunday. The free event, which is held in support of Mudeford’s RNLI station, starts at 11am and will feature a display from the Mudeford Lifeboat and the Coastguard helicopter. There will also be music, food, activities for children but the star attraction is the raft race at 1pm.

3. Another event set to draw the crowds in Christchurch is the ever-popular Stompin’ on the Quomps on Saturday. Crowds will be entertained by top-quality jazz musicians on the Quomps including Zoe Schwarz Blue Commotion, PEE Wee Ellis Assembly and Efiada, culminating with two sets from The Taverners Big Band in the evening.

4. The Thai Summer Fair returns to Kings Park this Sunday. There will be a blessing by Buddhist Monks, a Thai boxing demonstration, Thai cuisine, dancing, children’s entertainment and more. Takes place between 10am and 7pm. Everyone is welcome.

5. Hot on the heels of Camp Bestival, Bestival will be returning to Lulworth Estate from today. Acts set to perform include London Grammar, Silk City, M.I.A, Grace Jones, Plan B and First Aid Kit. Tickets are still available.

6. A family fun day takes place at The Hamworthy Club on Magna Road at Canford Magna on Sunday between 11am and 4pm. There will be entertainment for children, a mini funfair, a dog show, a BBQ, ice creams and more than 40 stalls plus free face paint for the first 50 children through the doors. Entry costs £1.50 per person and the event is taking place to raise money for Forest Holme Hospice.

7. The 10th annual Poole Town & Country Fair comes to Upton Country Park this weekend. The two-day event will feature the Savage Bike Skills Display Team, birds of prey, ferrets, terrier racing, children’s entertainer Mario Magic, a goat show, children’s petting pens, an historical re-enactment and vintage vehicles. There will also be arts, crafts, drink and gift marquees. Entry is £7.50 for adults per day, £4 for children aged five to 17-years-old and free for under fives.

8. The British Beach Handball Championships will be taking place between Canford Cliffs and Branksome Chine on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. People are invited to watch and tickets cost £5 for adults and are free for children aged under 16. The event includes a spectator area, food stall, beach bar and play area for children.

9. Poole Lifeboat Station open day takes place on Sunday. The event, on Poole Quay by the lifting bridge, takes place between 11am and 5pm. There will be real-life demonstrations and visitors will have the chance to look round the new boathouse and meet the crew.  There will also be stalls, a raffle, tombola, cakes and games. Entry is free.
