TWO people have appeared in court after a 13-year-old boy suffered life-changing eye injuries during an incident in Poole.

The boy was walking in Wimborne Road close to the junction with Tatnam Road when he was struck with a projectile allegedly fired from a BB gun.

As a result of his injury, sustained on New Year's Eve 2017, the boy suffered permanent damage to the eye.

On Friday, Benjamin Brown, 20, appeared at Poole Magistrates' Court charged with wounding or inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent and common assault.

The defendant, who is formerly of Tatnam Crescent and now of Seatown Close in Canford Heath, has not yet entered pleas to either of the charges. Prosecutors allege the common assault also took place on December 31 when a woman sitting at a bus stop was hit in the leg with a projectile.

Hannah Sherwood, also 20 and of Seatown Close, is charged with committing an act with intent to pervert the course of public justice in connection with the alleged incident.

She did not enter a plea.

Both defendants will next appear at Bournemouth Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing next month.
