PARKS across Bournemouth and Poole have been recognised in the Green Flag Award scheme.

The international mark of quality has been awarded to 19 parks maintained by Bournemouth council, as well as three maintained by Borough of Poole.

Councillor Robert Lawton, Bournemouth's cabinet member for communities, said: “Our parks and green spaces are at the very heart of our communities and are so important to Bournemouth’s identity.

"With 19 awards across Bournemouth this is a reason to be immensely proud.

"Everyone involved plays a key role in achieving the high standards required to earn a Green Flag and I would like to say a huge thank you once again to everyone who has done their bit this year."

Joining the town centre gardens, Hengistbury Head and a host of other parks across the borough in an award this year is Muscliff Park.

International Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd said: “We are delighted to be celebrating another record-breaking year for the Green Flag Award scheme, with more awarded this year than last year.

“Each flag honours the thousands of staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award.

"We are proud to have so many wonderful green spaces in the UK for people to enjoy.”
