THURSDAY’S fire on Ferndown Common, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, started about 150m from the back of my house at approximately 5.30pm to 6pm.
I spent a couple of hours assisting the fire brigade and members of the public who performed sterling work getting the fire under control with the added danger of changing wind conditions and lightning in the area.
Some of these brave fellows were over worked and had been working elsewhere since earlier in the day. It was rumoured that a Cornish fire engine was present as well as many others from neighbouring counties.
My hat goes off to them and I would like to send them a great big thank you.
