THERE was drumming, dancing and fine dining on the menu when 1805, a new Chinese restaurant, officially opened its doors in Bournemouth last Sunday.

The mayor and mayoress of Bournemouth, Cllr Derek Borthwick and Mrs Dorothy Borthwick, cut the ribbon, alongside chairman of AFC Bournemouth Jeff Mostyn and Rose Mostyn and company director Linlin Xing.

The celebration featured a colourful lion dance to bring good luck and fortune, and guests were treated to bespoke cocktails, canapes and a taster of some of the main dishes including steamed seabass, soya chicken, Chinese baby pak choi with garlic sauce, sweet and sour pork with fresh fruit, beef fillets with asparagus, egg fried rice and chicken noodles followed by a tangy mango pudding and fresh fruits.

Andy Liu, general manager of 1805, said: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming customers to all that 1805 has to offer and providing them with a first-class service. The food is creative, authentic and incredibly appetising.

“We are ideally located to host all kinds of events whether it be a romantic evening, a gathering for the whole family, drinks with friends, or a more formal meeting. Guests will have an unforgettable experience.”

Bournemouth mayor Cllr Derek Borthwick added: “I am thrilled to welcome 1805 restaurant to Bournemouth. It’s an excellent addition to the dining scene in the area and such a unique venue. I wish the team every success in their new venture.”

Inspired by Chinese history, the name of the restaurant marks the year that the first Chinese man became an established British citizen, a significant moment in history and a move so rare it required an Act of Parliament.

Blending traditional and contemporary Chinese culture, the restaurant offers a range of fresh and vibrant dishes in an elegant setting including an inspired dim sum menu created by Head Dim Sum Chef, Xing Yu, who has over 30 years culinary experience.

The independent venue in Beacon Road seats up to 120 guests with a spacious outside terrace, main restaurant area, private dining room and cocktail lounge, while the interior incorporates natural elements such as reclaimed wood and hand-crafted furniture.

The venue also pays homage to its roots with a display of historical artefacts, including a traditional carriage in the reception area.
