A CASE of MRSA within Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals trust was reported last month for the first time in five years.

The “isolated” case of the infection, which is resistant to a number of widely-used antibiotics, was contracted by a patient in June and the trust has said that no-one else was impacted by the illness.

MRSA mainly affects people who are staying in hospital and can cause serious health issues.

At Wednesday’s meeting of the trust’s board of directors, chairman David Moss said that he was “disappointed” to see the first MRSA infection reported in five years but that it had not spread beyond the first patient.

A review has been launched into how the infection was contracted and the case has also been reported to the Dorset Infection Prevention and Control Healthcare Associated Infection at its meeting this month.
