MORE than 100 events will take place during Swanage Regatta & Carnival week which kicks off this Saturday and runs until August 4.

Highlights include live music every day, a half marathon, sandcastle competitions, a talent show, sailing regatta, treasure hunts, firework displays and of course the colourful Swanage Carnival procession at 3pm on Sunday – this year’s theme is Swanage Goes Safari.

Here is a guide to some of the other bits not to miss:

1. Food & drink: The Carnival Arms is open every day from 11.30am to 11pm in the marquee serving locally brewed organic cider from Purbeck Cider Company and ales from the Isle of Purbeck brewery. There’s also an enclosed family-friendly beer garden.

2. Free stuff: Arts & craft fair on Monday. See what local artists and crafts people have to offer or enjoy a free adrenaline rush courtesy of the Freedrop Airbag Experience on Saturday. Jump from the equivalent of the roof of a house with no bungee or parachute.

3. Vintage Car & Classic Car Show on Friday. From early vehicles all the way to modern classics, supercar sports cars, military vehicles, tractors and custom made cars.

4. Stunt show: Savage Skills is an award-winning freestyle mountain bike stunt team providing interactive, jaw dropping displays.

5. Wheelbarrow Race: A pub crawl with a difference on Friday. Teams of two in fancy dress, one team member pushing and the other sat in the wheelbarrow; race around a designated route in the town centre stopping at each pub.

6. Dog show: Scruffs dog show on Wednesday from 12.15pm onwards at Sandpit Field. There will also be a dog agility display.

7. Live music: Swanage Town Band will be at the bandstand in the Recreation Ground on Wednesday, August 1, from 6.45pm to 8pm.

8. Fireworks: There will be three displays starting on Saturday, July 28, then on Wednesday, August 1 and finally on Saturday, August 4. The display takes place from the jetty between 9.45pm and 10pm.
