OFFICERS are probing an 'unexplained' death near a Hampshire railway station.

It comes following an incident on tracks near Fareham station on July 16, in which a 27-year-old man, from Southampton, died.

The incident took place around 6.10pm, on the tracks near to the Gudge Heath Lane bridge.

Police say his death is still unexplained and officers are now working hard to trace the movements of this man prior to his death.

Today, the British Transport Police are appealing for any potential witnesses to get in touch.

Temporary Detective Sergeant Gemma Ryan said: “This was a tragic incident for the family of the man who sadly died and we have specially trained officers providing them with support.

"It is now vitally important we trace his final movements and I would urge anyone with information to come forward, as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information that could assist the police are asked to call British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016, quoting 500 of 16 July.
