A SEA view adds more than £100,000 on average to the price of a home in Bournemouth, a survey has found.

The same study found Poole was the UK’s third most expensive town for buying a home with a sea view.

Homes with a view in seaside towns generally cost 29 per cent, or £68,632, more than homes in the same towns without a view.

But in Bournemouth, the premium for being able to see the waves was 35 per cent – taking the price to £395,196 instead of £292,431.

Poole had the third highest average asking price for homes with a sea view, at £42,149 – 24 per cent above the £364,239 average for a home away from the sea.

The study by Rightmove looked at homes under £1million, thus eliminating many properties in expensive areas like Sandbanks. It found Hove was the most costly place to live by the sea, with an average asking price of £481,826.

Rightmove director Miles Shipside said: "Our analysis removed any homes over £1million so as not to drive up the average prices in areas, but if you do take a look at the higher end of the market you'll find a number of waterside mansions in areas like Sandbanks and Salcombe that are up for sale for millions of pounds, and on the flipside houses in much cheaper resorts that are up for sale for as little as £150,000."
