DORSET and Hampshire sailors representing Great Britain at the 2018 Youth World Championship remained in medal contention following day three.

Royal Lymington Yacht Club pair Vita Heathcote and Milly Boyle strengthened their chances in the girls’ 420.

They have held second place at the end of every day and continued that run with a third and fourth-place finish.

“Consistency is definitely the key in events like this,” said Heathcote.

“It’s five days and it’s tight racing because of the small fleets. We’ve had a nice consistent event so far and still hold on to second place.”

For crew Boyle, 17, there could be more to come from the pair in the final days as familiarity increases: “Trying to get used to the conditions has been fun.

"It’s a different style of racing and I feel we are getting the hang of it a bit now.”

Familiarity could be key as current leaders and reigning youth world champions Carmen and Emma Cowles hold a nine-point advantage over the second-placed Brits in Corpus Christi, Texas.

In the girls’ 29er, Parkstone Sailing Club duo Freya Black and Millie Aldridge moved up one place to ninth.

And two eighth-placed finishes for Royal Lymington’s Matilda Nicholls saw her remain seventh in the girls’ Laser Radial.
