DORSET'S Phil Loose has set his sights on earning a place in the Great Britain tennis squad after winning his third major title of the season.

Loose, who manages and coaches at Wimborne Tennis Club, saw off the top two seeds on his way to tasting victory at the FILA Frinton-on-Sea ITF Seniors Championship.

The 39-year-old was crowned veteran-40 champion and rocketed 59 places to 43rd in the world rankings.

Loose also won the Scottish Seniors Open in February and the Senior English Indoor Championship in April.

He told the Daily Echo: "I am delighted to have won three tournaments in a row.

"I am looking to get into the Great Britain squad next year and feel I am playing some the best tennis of my career.

"I would like to thank David Lloyd Southampton for their continued support in allowing me to use their fantastic indoor facilities.

Loose, seeded three, received a bye into the quarter-final where he recorded an emphatic 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Ireland's Gavin Ballance.

In the semi-final, he accounted for number one seed Aleksander Kacmarek from Poland, Loose winning 6-3, 6-1 against the man ranked 26 in the world.

And he claimed the title after number two seed Michael Ellames from Essex retired in the final while trailing 4-0 in the second set having lost the opener 6-3.

Loose will be hoping to maintain his form when he takes his chance in the FILA St George's Hill Seniors Open, which starts on Monday.
