THOUSANDS of people are expected to line the streets for this year's Wareham Carnival.

Events are taking place in the Purbeck town all week, leading up to Sunday's main procession.

This year's carnival theme is 'parasols and brollies', so participants will be ready for whatever weather comes their way.

Wareham Carnival's annual scarecrow competition has been running since the beginning of the month, and the winning entries will be displayed at the carnival arena, Wareham Recreation Ground, after Sunday's procession.

Attractions at the Rec will include more than 50 stalls, live music, a bar, food outlets and live animal shows.

There will also be performances from urban mountain bike riders, the Poole Field Gun Display Team and Dorset Youth Marching Band.

The main procession, which will move through the town centre, is scheduled for a 1pm start on Sunday, July 22.
