A DERELICT office block which has used by youths to terrorise neighbours is to be demolished, again.

Bournemouth council planning officers have granted permission for WCR Management Ltd to knock down the structure called Jecco House, in Boscombe Grove Road, Springbourne, and build a block of 29 homes.

A previous scheme was approved in 2016 but the site has remained undeveloped to the disappointment of residents.

A report on the latest proposal, prepared by planning officer Sophie Edwards, states: "It is considered that the scheme as proposed would now constitute an appropriate redevelopment scheme, which would fit well within the historic appearance that characterises its immediate surroundings, whilst creating a satisfactory residential environment.

"Within the street scene, it is considered that the proposed buildings fronting Boscombe Grove Road would relate better to existing properties."

The site now includes part of the garden of the adjacent property at 24 Boscombe Grove Road.

Formerly the home of AIM Aviation, which has moved near to Bournemouth Airport, the building contains asbestos making for a more protracted demolition.

Back in January this year residents complained to the Echo that "horrible" teenagers were making their lives miserable by littering and loitering around the derelict building.

Dorset Police said it had received 12 reports of antisocial behaviour connected with the site in just three months.

Also in January, WCR said it was hoping to build "desperately-needed family housing" as soon as possible but had been delayed due to "difficulties" with the planning department.

The firm said there had been "numerous break-ins, thefts and antisocial behaviour" on the site.
