AN appeal against Bournemouth council's decision to stop a garage opening late has been dismissed.

Borough planners said allowing the Esso service station at 271 Kinson Road to open through the night would lead to unacceptable noise pollution for nearby residents.

The bid was rejected in May last year, following advice from environmental health officers.

In a new report, planning inspector Janet Wilson said: "It seems to me that in the event that the garage were to be permitted to trade throughout the night there would be a significant probability of noise disturbance to the occupiers of dwellings closest to the site, when residents would be sleeping and particularly in warmer weather when windows would be open."

The service station is currently permitted to operate between 7am and 11pm.
