THOUSANDS of people packed the streets for the Lytchett Minster & Upton Carnival on Saturday.

Colourful floats set off from Factory Road around 1pm, snaking their way to Upton Recreation Ground.

Supporters and well-wishers lined the roadside, cheering on the parade as it made its was past.

Attractions at the event arena included a number of special BMX stunt displays, bouncy castles, fairground rides and even a tug-of-war contest.

Live music was performed throughout Saturday afternoon from the carnival's main stage.

Event spokesman Lisa Reynolds, told the Daily Echo: "We had 2,500 people come here last year, and it is going up every year, so we are expecting lots of people."

Money raised goes back into the carnival funds for next year, but is also donated to local charities and good causes.

This year, Upton Junior School and the local branch of Age Concern are the chosen beneficiaries.

Lisa added: "Money raised also goes towards community events throughout the year, such as Christmas parties.

"The money goes straight back into the community.

"This is massively supported by locals, and they come back year after year, which is really great.

"And we have a massive variation of food here, with stalls including wildlife and lots of charities."

Other attractions proving popular on Saturday included the Henna tattoo stand, the National Trust and 'Juggling Jake'.

Upton resident Michael Stewart said: "The weather has been great and there is so much entertainment, so much to do.

"I think most of the people you see here are local to this area, and I it is great to have community events like this.

"From the crowds you can see now I'd say it has been another success.

"I was here last year and I'll be back in 2019 as well."
