HEAVY and thundery showers could be seen across Dorset on Friday, the Met Office has warned.

The Met Office said there could be as much as 20mm of rainfall in one hour in some places across the South West.

A yellow weather warning – meaning 'be aware' – has been issued for Bournemouth, Poole and the rest of the county and is valid between 11am and 8pm on Friday.

At this stage, the Met Office forecast says Friday will be sunny and dry with a 40 per cent chance of rain at 1pm.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Many places will be dry, however there is the potential for heavy and slow-moving thundery downpours in places.”

The Met Office says some flooding to homes and businesses is “likely” with a good chance driving conditions could also be difficult due to spray and standing water.

The spokesperson added: “Some short term loss of power and other services due to lightning strikes is possible.”

Temperatures are predicted to to be 26C on Saturday and 28C on Sunday.
