A MAN has been arrested following a reported hit-and-run in Sturminster Newton last week. A local teenager was initially said to be in a life-threatening condition after suffering a serious head injury in the crash in Manston Road. Police say he remains in a "serious but stable condition, which is not believed to be life-threatening". The collision happened at around 7.20pm on Thursday, July 5, at the junction with Green Close.

A green Mini and a silver Chevrolet Kalos were involved.

The driver of the Kalos reportedly failed to stop at the scene and the car was found abandoned nearby.

The 19-year-old driver of the Mini was taken to Dorset County Hospital.

A 21-year-old man from the Blandford area has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident, as well as driving without valid insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence. He is currently assisting officers with their enquiries.

Officers are still appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to contact police.
