ROTARY clubs across the conurbation have come together to raise £10,000 for a mental health charity.

The Rotary Clubs of Bournemouth, Bournemouth East Cliff, Bournemouth North, Christchurch, Poole Bay, and Westbourne have each pledged to raise their contribution in various ways.

The cash will help Dorset Mind recruit a project leader for the first stage of its 'Dorset Mind Your Head' project to support young people with mental health problems.

This will include awareness raising, education programmes, befriending and counselling, online forums and drop-in sessions.

The charity has estimated it will require £1,117,000 to run these services over five years.

It has thus far begun a pilot scheme, working with Corfe Hills School, Bournemouth Collegiate School and The Grange School.

The charity is also working with Thomas Hardy School in Dorchester and the Purbeck Youth Centre.

Rotary assistant governor Mike Dwyer said: "Young people's mental health issues are finally getting the recognition and support that is urgently required. I am delighted that my clubs have partnered to 'kick start' this project."
