THE next instalment of the Star Wars franchise which landed in the box office last week is the latest film success for the New Forest.

The Film:New Forest partnership between New Forest District Council (NFDC) and Creative England is celebrating a successful second year after the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story which had scenes shot in the New Forest.

The district now has its place in history after the cast and crew spent 25 days in the area to film shots for the Disney/Lucas Film production last year.

Cllr Michael Harris, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development at NFDC, said “This project alone injected more than £1 million to the local economy, with the total brought in to the area to date from the Film:New Forest partnership standing at over £3 million."

Solo: A Star Wars Story used Fawley Power Station as a backdrop for some scenes set on the planet Cornelia.

Neil Lamont, the movie’s production designer, said: “We could never have afforded, nor had the space, to build a set that had so much technical depth within it."
